Rob Heylen obtained the licenciaat degree (masters equivalent) from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in 2004, and the PhD degree in theoretical physics, with work in the field of statistical mechanics and neural networks, in 2008. Since 2009 he is a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Antwerp, where he is currently still residing.
